About Me

Welcome!
Hello and welcome to my site! I am a photographer that specializes in portrait, event, band and travel photography. In particular, I love telling stories through pictures and I have an eye for the interesting and different. I take a minimalistic "organic" approach to my photography and use natural lighting, make minimal computer edits and try to capture the feeling of a moment and not create an artificial one.

I fell into the world of photography when I was given a camera as a gift at just 9 years old. For the first few years I took lots of blurry pictures of whatever caught my interest, but I stuck with it and started to become interested in how photography was a way that I could communicate how I saw the world. Through that exploration I began to take pictures of people when they weren't looking. I wanted to tell the true story of a person and how they interacted with the world around them. I found beauty in ordinary actions and became excited to capture moments that told a story about someones life. During high school I set up a dark room in my Mothers basement and began developing and printing my own black and white photography. Then when I went off to College I began taking photography classes and working in the dark room on campus. I did three major documentary photography projects during my first year of school in which I focused on current activist movements including documenting protests and the people involved. For the next many years I traveled around the globe documenting the places and people I saw and becoming more inspired to tell stories through pictures. I was able to publish some of my work in our school news paper and share my photography and stories with others. During this time I also started freelance work doing portrait photography for families, students, graduations and engagements. More recently I have been shooting bands, weddings and large events. During the summer of 2010, I decided to transition from film into digital photography (a little late I know...but, I love film!) and embrace technology. I started a blog, created a website, started an online photo gallery and began the task of transferring tens of thousands of prints into digital form. This has been a daunting and exciting task!

In addition to my passion for photography, I have a strong personal commitment to environmental and social justice and I have a B.A. from the Evergreen State College in Environmental Science and Cultural Studies and I am about to complete my M.A. in Sustainability Education from Portland State University. As I move forward with my photography business I always keep my other passions in mind and I will continue the work to help create a more livable, environmentally sustainable world each and every day I am alive!

I hope you enjoy what you see!
Cheers!
